A FREE park-and-ride service into Chichester for Christmas shoppers starts this week.

The shuttle bus service begins on Thursday between 4.30pm and 8pm when the Christmas lights switch-on and late-night shopping takes place.

Apart from this Thursday, the service will run every 15 minutes between 8am and 6pm, with the last shuttle bus leaving the city centre at 6pm.

The bus will leave Chichester College car park at Westgate and drop off to Eastgate, Northgate and the Cathedral.

The service will run every weekend until Christmas, as well as December 23 and 24.

Councillor Myles Cullen, in charge of economy at Chichester District Council, said: ‘We’re delighted that the free park and ride service is returning for Christmas 2013.

‘If you’ve used the service before you will know the benefits of parking at the park and ride facility at Chichester College and then continuing the rest of your journey into the city centre by public transport. This offers a convenient and less stressful alternative to the car.’
