A HARBOUR cafe has been awarded gold in a national industry award ceremony.

Driftwood Cafe, in Emsworth High Street, has received gold in the Cafe Society Awards 2013.

Manager Rebecca Stickley, 31, said she was ‘delighted’ with the award.

‘It’s fantastic. I’m over the moon. We were judged alongside companies from London so I’m very glad we won.’

As members of the Cafe Society, Driftwood had the opportunity to put forward an application for the award.

They were then shortlisted by judges and underwent a secret visit.

The cafe has been in Emsworth for six years and Miss Stickley said they are especially happy to win the Cafe Independent Award.

She added: ‘We think independent businesses are so important to keep money in the local economy.

‘The competition was based on atmosphere, service and food. We use so much local produce, such as Emsworth butchers and Westbourne Bakery, we think it definitely helped.’
