AN APPEAL has been launched to raise more than £5.8m to restore an historic cathedral’s roof.

Chichester Cathedral’s roof is in urgent need of repair and restoration and today (Friday, February 16) Dame Patricia Routledge helped to launch Chichester Cathedral’s High Roof Restoration Appeal.

Dame Patricia said: ‘I think this is a very important appeal because it concerns everybody in the community and, for those who are not familiar with this glorious building, it’s up to us to point out the essential requirement that it should be restored.

‘It’s our history, it’s our heritage, it’s our meeting place.

Appeal Chairman Daniel Hodson added: ‘We have a critical task to save one of the country’s finest monuments.’
