Can you help the Stubbington Ark find a home for this 50kg dog?

AN URGENT appeal has been launched to help find a huge dog called Frank – a mastiff-cross-American bulldog – a home.

Frank was admitted to the RSPCA animal shelter the Stubbington Ark, near Fareham, more than nine months ago when his owner moved house and couldn’t take the dog with him.

After two months of settling in to the shelter, Frank, who weighs more than 100lbs, was put up for rehoming, although he’s had no luck finding a new owner and RSPCA officers say he’s becoming restless and agitated by being cooped up.

Charlie Kershaw, an animal care assistant, who works at the Stubbington Ark, has been looking after Frank.

She said: ‘Frank is a real big softie who loves to cuddle and he makes me smile everyday. He’s such a lovely dog. I wish I could take him home.’

Frank is a six-year old, male, mastiff-cross-American bulldog.

Stubbington Ark fundraiser, Annabel Radcliffe, urged people to come forward and considering offering Frank a home.

She said: ‘He’s so nervous around people but he really needs a loving home.

‘It took him a couple of months to settle in, but now he’s been here for too long.’

She described him as very loyal and said that he forms close attachments, although he can be nervous of men and new situations.

He is strong on the lead and needs a calm spacious home.

She said that Frank would suit experienced owners who have the patience to build a relationship.

Annabel also described him as affectionate and playful once relaxed, but added that he needs to be in a home without cats.

He meets other dogs well on walks, and can be left for four hours, although he cannot be adopted in Havant or Southampton.

Annabel also urged people to come to the shelter to have a look at some of the other animals, which include rats, cats, rabbits, plus more.

There are usually more than 500 animals at any one time at the centre, which is self-funded. It needs to raise £3,196 a day to keep the shelter running.

The Stubbington Ark is in Ranvilles Lane, Fareham. It is open seven days a week from 10am until 4pm. For more call 01329 667541.
