LARA Clarke’s Christmas design will be adorning hundreds of people’s mantelpieces this year after her drawing won the chance to be made into a proper card.

The nine-year-old won this year’s L&S Waste Management Christmas card design competition.

The competition, in its second year, sees children with motor disorders who attend the Rainbow Centre in Fareham put forward their best Christmas drawings.

Cards with the winning design are sold to help raise money for the centre.

Mick Balch, managing director of the Fareham-based L&S Waste, said: ‘Once again the standard of entries was unbelievably high, making it very difficult to judge a winner. However, after much deliberation, we selected Lara’s beautifully cheerful drawing for this year’s Christmas card.’

Lara said: ‘I looked at a book on how to design a card and it said animals were the most popular choice.

‘That’s why I drew a dog with a Christmas hat and tinsel. The cards look really good and I’ll be sending lots to my friends and family.’

Emma Macnaghten, from the centre, said: ‘We are so grateful to Mick Balch and his team for once again sponsoring our Christmas card competition.

‘The children really enjoy drawing their masterpieces and Lara was absolutely delighted to have won.’
