CLOWNS, stilt walkers and trapeze artists will parade around Leigh Park for this year’s carnival.

The theme is the circus and scores of people will be wearing fancy dress for a walking procession.

The carnival takes place on Saturday, June 30, and the procession will start at 12.30pm from Front Lawn Recreation Ground.

The parade will then travel along Battens Way, Stockheath Way, Bedhampton Way, Colemore Square, Catherington Way, Soberton Road, Alresford Road, and then on to Stockheath Common.

Treasurer of the organising committee Faith Ponsonby said: ‘Our new Mayor Gerald Shimbart will be opening it and do the judging for the fancy dress.

‘We knew everybody would be doing the Jubilee or Olympics, so we went for something different.’

There will be stalls, games, singing and dance performances, as well as the funfair.

Local bands are being invited to perform on a stage from 5pm. Anyone interested or setting up a stall can call John Statham on 07780 512944.
