THE Royal Navy stepped in to offer a sports hall so that a charity cake and card sale could go ahead.

The Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity were left without a venue after the chaplaincy they normally use was undergoing building work.

The Royal Navy agreed to let the charities use the sports hall at HMS Collingwood instead.

They raised an impressive £458 by selling homemade cards and cakes. All the proceeds went to the two charities.

Petty Officer Physical Trainer Helen Richardson approved the loan of the sports centre, she said: ‘It was a great event, we raised the profile of a worthy cause.’
