Butter-fingered former Lord Mayor of Portsmouth David Fuller accidentally dropped a box of china cups and plates used by his charity, City of Portsmouth Charitable Friends, destroying around 60 pieces of crockery.

The charity was founded by David Fuller and his sister, the former Lady Mayoress Leza Tremorin.

The organisation uses the fine china at its monthly events, serving tea to the elderly.

The group had just finished an event when Councillor Fuller dropped the box, causing the delicate plates and cups to shatter across the pavement.

The crockery belonged to the charity’s organiser, Marcella Payne.

Liberal Democrat candidate Tracy McClure is a member of the Portsmouth Charitable Friends committee.

She said: ‘I volunteer with the City of Portsmouth Charitable Friends which puts on fund raising teas once a month, mainly for the elderly, with funds going to support local Portsmouth charities.

‘To make it special we use bone china cups and plates which belong to our organiser, Marcella. Unfortunately, after the last event, a whole box of bone china plates was dropped, smashing about 60 into little pieces.’

The charity is asking anybody with china plates that go unused to donate them to the cause.

Tracy added:‘If you have some bone china plates sitting in the back of a cupboard that are never used or have a friend or relative who does, would you consider donating them ASAP as our next fundraiser is on Thursday at 1pm at Friendship House.’

Tracy is asking that anybody in a position to donate calls her urgently on 07710 512189.
