It featured several stops in the town centre to say prayers and sing hymns, and featured two donkeys provided by Keydell Nurseries in Horndean.

The procession began at The Heroes pub, proceeded down to the centre and around the outskirts and ended at St George’s church in St George’s Walk for the Eucharist service.

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, which culminates in Easter Sunday, and represents the time that Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey along streets lined with crowds waving palm trees.

Members of the church also received symbolic Palm Sunday crosses.

Head of communications Chris Gadd said: ‘This is a very important week for the Christian church. We would love to see people at any of our services particularly next Sunday which is Easter Day.’
