PEOPLE who have made outstanding contributions to the city’s life will be recognised on Monday.

The new Lord Mayor, Councillor Lynne Stagg, will present six Civic Awards, and a new Youth Civic Award, at the annual mayor-making ceremony on Monday at the Guildhall.

The 2013 adult Civic Award recipients are Janice Andrews, Rear Admiral David Bawtree, Kathleen Lewis, Audrey Luke, John Mason, and Commander Eddie Grenfell. The 2013 Portsmouth Youth Civic Award goes to Ben Dowling, for continued dedication and commitment to young people.

City councillors make the nominations for the awards, the recipients of which will receive a badge and certificate.

Cllr Lynne Stagg will present the awards as one of her first duties as new Lord Mayor.

Leader of the council Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson said: ‘I continue to be really impressed that we have so many people volunteering here in Portsmouth, to make the city a better place.

‘The city would be much poorer without their input.

‘I’m pleased that we’re able to celebrate people of all generations.’
