Vicky Beckett says she was ‘left with no choice’ but to pay £200 in valet fees after criminals broke into her Fiat 500 and soiled the inside.

The vehicle was parked outside her Emsworth Road home in North End where it is believed a couple forced entry into the car on Saturday night – but did not steal anything.

Instead, the intruders left behind fingernail clippings, tissues, loose change and a women’s watch which has now been handed over to police.

Describing her shock at discovering the damage, Mrs Beckett, 48, said: ‘I first saw what had happened on Monday morning – I care for my mother and I was about to drive to her house.

‘I initially thought the car had just been broken into, but I peered into the back and suddenly the smell hit me.

‘I was nearly physically sick. I gagged and I had to take my head out – it was disgusting.

‘There was urine all over the seats, the footwell, the dashboard, the air vents and the gear stick – it was everywhere and just made the car undrivable.

‘I was left with no choice but to call a valet and get it cleaned.’

After Mrs Beckett alerted them to the incident, police inspected the car and collected DNA evidence in a bid to track down the perpetrators.

They are carrying out investigations into the matter.

It was Roland Miller of regional firm Max Wax who was called to valet the car.

Speaking about the state it was in when he arrived, Mr Miller said: ‘I noticed the smell straight away – it was quite overwhelming – whoever did this left the car in a very bad way.

‘Some valeters would have taken one glance inside and said “you know what, we can’t do anything about that”, but that doesn’t help anyone.

‘So I put on my gloves, knuckled down and got to work for the next two-and-a-half-hours.

‘I’ve been doing this for 12 years and I’ve seen some horrendous-looking cars in that time, but this was certainly up there.

‘I really did feel sorry for the woman.’

While she was admittedly upset by the incident, Mrs Beckett – a full-time carer for her husband, mother and father – was ‘baffled’ the vandals did not take anything.

She said: ‘I cannot understand the motivation behind doing this.

‘I was baffled to learn they had not taken anything with them.’

As of yesterday, Mrs Beckett had not driven the car since the ordeal occurred.

She added: ‘When I do, I’m going to have to put it right at the back of my mind.’
