ONE of the largest climbing walls in Hampshire is gearing up for its official opening event.

The new climbing centre, called Red Spider, has opened at Fort Wallington Industrial Estate in Fareham.

It will be hosting a fun day of activities and competitions on Saturday, from 10am until 7pm, to celebrate.

Chris Edwards, from the centre, said: ‘It will be great, we will be officially celebrating our launch.

‘There will be fun activities and competitions taking place all day.’

The day will see events for all ages and abilities, as well as a live DJ, food, drink and plenty of prizes and giveaways.

There will also be half-price taster sessions.

The new climbing centre, which opened at the end of last year, is the second one owned by Steve Ray. His first centre, White Spider, opened in August 2012, in Surbiton and has more than 2,000sq m of climbing.

Red Spider in Farehan is a 1,200sq m dedicated boulder centre with more than 250 problems, plus a kids’ castle and pirate ship, climbing, tunnels, slides, party room, training area and cafe.
