A TEAM which runs animal welfare for two councils has won a trio of RSCPA awards.

Havant Borough Council (HBC) and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) recently merged their animal welfare teams and have earned three of the charity’s gold medals.

Secured by employees Neil Thompson-Burton, Jazmine Green and Gillian Gower, the honours praise their care of stray dogs, contingency planning and regulation of animal boarding businesses – including kennels, stables, catteries, pet shops and even a bird zoo – across the area.

They were awarded as part of the nationwide RSPCA Community Animal Welfare PawPrint Awards.

EHDC councillor Ingrid Thomas said: ‘This is the first year our animal welfare team has been working across two councils, so we are thrilled they have achieved so much success. It’s an incredible achievement to win three golds in these vital areas of animal welfare and it demonstrates the great job the team is doing.’
