Council wants more foster carers to help

A COUNCILLOR has made a plea for more people to become foster carers.

It comes as national research revealed ahead of Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from May 16 to 29, shows a child goes into care every 20 minutes.

Councillor Keith Mans, Hampshire County Council’s executive lead member for children and families, said there has been an increase in young people needing homes.

He said: ‘As is the case across the country, we are always in need of more foster carers.

‘There is increasing demand for children’s social care and the loss of foster carers because they may be moving away from the county or retiring, means having sufficient foster carers is a challenge.’
