MAYORS from across Cyprus were shown around Hayling Island as part of a fact-finding trip.
The eight directly-elected Cypriot mayors made a flying visit to Havant as part of a study tour organised by the Cypriot Academy of Public Administration.
They spent the day networking and learning from the Havant Borough Councils as well as other local authorities around the UK.
It was the a second in a two-part visit hosted by South East Employers, after winning a European-funded bid to host a total of four study tours for the Cypriot Academy.
After an address by Sandy Hopkins, joint chief executive at East Hampshire and Havant council’s the mayors were given a tour of Hayling Island.
There they were given an insight into how the council manages the risk of coastal flooding and erosion by coastal partnership manager Lyall Cairns.
Mayor of Havant Councillor Gerald Shimbart, said: ‘My wife and I were delighted to be a part of this networking opportunity.
Councillor Marjorie Smallcorn helped co-ordinate the visits.
She said: ‘Our visitors were impressed by the Public Service Plaza and how staff can work flexibly from other council offices and sometimes from home’
