UNLUCKY Darrell Butler failed to win over the hearts of 30 women on ITV1’s Take Me Out.

But the bike mechanic for Wiggle Tri-Sports and Bike Shop, in Cosham, Portsmouth, says he hasn’t given up hope of finding love following his experience on the popular television show.

Darrell was one of four single men looking for a stunning date to take to the ‘Isle of Fernando’.

But his hopes were shattered after the ladies gave him the red light following a video which highlighted his passion for fixing bikes and gymnastics, which he does at Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre.

The 27-year-old, of Shadwell Road, North End, even tried winning over the contestants by riding his unicycle up and down the studio floor.

Darrell will get the chance to show the ladies what they missed out on when Take Me Out: The Gossip presenter Zoe Hardman takes him out for a date on the show this Saturday.

He said: ‘Life has just gone on as normal. It’s just another thing I can say I’ve done.

‘I don’t think the women were particularly impressed with my gymnastic skills or what I wore to the gym, but the final straw was when I came out onto the stage riding my unicycle.

‘It’s a passion of mine. It would take hell and high water for me to give up my unicycle for someone.

‘If they can’t handle that then they can’t have me. It was just a bit of fun.

‘The clothes I was made to wear for the gymnastics scene wasn’t particularly flattering.’

He added: ‘The whole experience was amazing.

‘But at the same time it was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life.’

A colleague of Darrell’s nominated him for the show after one of its producers put an advert up for male contestants on unicycle.com, which sells parts for unicycles.

Filming for the show began in September.

Darrell said: ‘I’m still single and I haven’t met any of the women from the show since.

‘I’ll just take everything as it comes.’

Darrell remained tight lipped over what was in store with his date Zoe Hardman – but promised it would make for good entertainment.

And he had some positive words for Take Me Out presenter Paddy McGuinness.

‘I didn’t feel star-struck but I instantly liked Paddy.

‘He’s a tremendous guy and extremely funny. He made me feel at ease straight away.

‘The whole experience of the show happened so fast. It was a good laugh.’
