The bonfire will be lit at 7pm, followed by a firework display at 7.30pm which will begin after a countdown led by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, David Fuller.

The council, which funds the event, has asked people to avoid driving if possible, but there will be parking at the Lakeside Northarbour business centre across the road.

Cllr Steve Pitt, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: '˜Our free annual fireworks display is always really popular and attracts lots of people from across the city.  Arrive early, bring your friends and family and enjoy the evening and the display.'

Visitors are not allowed to bring their own sparklers or fireworks.
