A SERIOUSLY-ILL little boy and his family have been invited to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Sam Merrick, who is the inspiration behind the charity Sam’s Haven, will join Andrea Bocelli at Windsor Castle after being nominated by Waitrose, which supports the charity through its in-store token scheme.
Sam, seven, will be joined by older brother Kiran, 11, his parents Louise and Paul and trustees from the charity to the afternoon tea and concert on May 14.
Louise, of Bere Road, Denmead, said: ‘We’re just absolutely over the moon.
‘Waitrose supports so many charities each year, we can’t believe they have chosen Sam’s Haven to be represented at the Queen’s Birthday.
‘It’s an amazing opportunity, a real privilege to have been chosen, especially considering we are such a new charity.’
Sam has ongoing, complex medical issues which require frequent hospital stays.
His older brother Kiran donated his bone marrow to Sam.
The Merrick family bought a holiday home which gives children like Sam, and their families, a short break for respite.
Louise, 35, added: ‘The boys are going to look absolutely adorable in their outfits.
‘The only problem now is deciding what I’m going to wear!’
The event will be broadcast live on ITV, hosted by Ant and Dec.
