BANGLADESHIS will benefit from an upcoming fundraising dinner planned by the Portsmouth City Lions Club.

Club president Syed Haque said the dinner would be at Gandhi Bangladeshi restaurant in Kingston Road, Portsmouth, on Monday, May 19 at 7.30pm.

Mr Haque said he hoped more than £1,000 would be raised on the night, which would go towards helping people in the Habiganj district of Bangladesh.

He said: ‘We are trying to fundraise for Bangladeshi people in need.

‘We are trying to help needy children with scholarships, or in any other way we can.’

Mr Haque said there would be entertainment on the evening and he expected Portsmouth’s lord mayor as well as other dignitaries to attend.

He said there would also be a raffle with prizes and vouchers donated by restaurants and businesses including Aubergine, Cafe Tusk, Coriander Restaurant, Ocean Fresh, Globex and TN Print.
