PRIZES were given to inspirational disabled sports people at an annual ceremony.

The Fareham & District Sports Association for the Disabled held the prize-giving ceremony.

Five awards were given out over the course of the evening to Joanna Turner, Vikkie Moreman, Kate Harradon, Matthew Pilcher and Tony Easterby.

Chairwoman Rosemary Titcombe said: ‘We take an annual overview of how people have done in their sport and how they’ve bettered themselves throughout the year.’

The association is a branch of Disabled Sport England and it caters for more than 50 disabled people at two venues in Fareham.

The awards ceremony was attended by mayor of Fareham Mike Ford, who said it was inspiring to see so many athletes showcasing their talents.

He said: ‘It really was quite inspiring.’

Vikkie Moreman, the club treasurer, was awarded the personality of the year award for her contribution to the club.

Mrs Titcombe said Ms Moreman was well deserving of the award.

She said: ‘She does a lot of extra work behind the scenes, so she contributed greatly this last year.’
