Easter bunny set to visit 20 Hayling Island children who enter a fun drawing competition

While everyone is stuck inside over the Easter holidays, children are missing out on the usual fun and frolics of egg hunts and trails - so a kind volunteer has come up with a festive idea.

Wendy Ball, who set up the volunteer-run aid group Hayling Helpers, is running a drawing competition for children between four and 12 to get involved with, with the chance for a visit from a special guest.

Wendy said: ‘Everything’s a bit doom and gloom at the moment. The kids are stuck in over the Easter holidays when normally they would be out doing egg hunts.

‘The reason I am running this competition is to bring some joy to this terrible time, the children would have been going to do fun things with their families.’

Entrants will need to draw a lovely picture of themselves and their family sitting under a rainbow and submit it by midday on Saturday, April 11 to be in with a chance of winning a prize delivered by the Easter bunny on Sunday.

‘I miss my five grandchildren so much and at times like Easter I miss them even more,’ Wendy added.

‘I know this is temporary but it is still hard so I keep myself busy by helping others.’

There will be 10 winners each chosen from categories of ages four to eight and ages nine to 12. Once the deadline has passed, judges will have to look over the colourful creations and choose their favourites.

This will be a fun way to keep the children occupied over the next few days, while they test their best artistic talents and get into the Easter spirit, despite the strange circumstances which the community finds itself in.

Completed pictures can be sent to [email protected], and must include the child’s name, age, address and a telephone number to make sure the lucky winners can be contacted and receive their prize.
