A KEEN baker has come second in a nationwide bake-off competition.

Elizabeth Arthur, 15, from Portsmouth High School, was one of six regional winners of the the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) Bake-off competition.

The final took place at Ipswich High School.

To reach the final, Elizabeth and other pupils competed in regional bake-offs and they were each asked to bake a Lemon Victoria Sandwich cake to a recipe provided by celebrity chef and cookery writer Mary Berry who is an alumna of a GDST school in Bath.

Elizabeth said: ‘I loved taking part in the Bake Off. All the girls baking had a great day and I am thrilled to have come second’.

The girls baked cupcakes to mark the 140th anniversary of the Girls’ Day School Trust.
