Mr FitzRoy-Stone, who since graduating has returned to his East Hampshire stomping ground, for now, said: ‘When I found out I had won I was completely overwhelmed.

‘This is a huge vote of confidence from my teachers and nominators, so I feel massively honoured.’

Before heading to the States, Mr FitzRoy-Stone was educated at Canford School in Dorset, before going on to study politics with international relations at the University of York.

Now, with strong credentials in his dream industry, he is focusing on forging a career – which will begin next week when he moves to New York city to chase his Broadway dream.

He said: ‘There is pressure on me with this award – I have to go out and prove myself now.

‘Throughout my studies I’ve realised theatre is what I love most, so my first port of call is to get over to New York and earn a living in that environment – so I can live off it.

‘It’s a very exciting time.’
