THE one-year countdown to the Olympic Games will be marked by a fitness bootcamp session in Emsworth.

The Mayor of Havant, Ken Smith, will officially open the fitness extravaganza at Emsworth Recreation Ground, in Horndean Road.

The event, called FitBeat, will work up a sweat as there are a range of activities to get involved with.

There will be bootcamp sessions provided by former navy physical training instructor George Turner, as well as judo, dancing, yoga and zumba.

Mr Turner, of Third Avenue, Havant, who runs Innovations Fitness, said: ‘We are delighted that the Mayor of Havant will be coming to open FitBeat on this huge day of celebration.

‘FitBeat is all about bringing the community together to enjoy a day of fun and activities and what better way to start proceedings?’

The event, which starts at 11am on Saturday, July 23, is being supported by Havant Borough Council.

Proceeds from the event will go to Wessex Heartbeat, a charity that supports people with heart disease, including babies born with heart defects.

D’Arcy Myers, chief executive of the charity, said: ‘We are very grateful to FitBeat for organising such a fantastic event in aid of Wessex Heartbeat.

‘Being active helps prevent future problems with heart health and this event is an ideal way to get moving with lots of different activities.’
