A PORTSMOUTH Scout was given the chance to talk to his MP during an event at the Conservative Party Conference.

Peter Marcus, 16, was one of almost 100 young people involved in a Scouts Speak Up event, which allows the Scouts to meet their MPs.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt, who is a Scout ambassador for the city, spoke to Peter about how young people can help their communities.

She said: ‘These events are always fantastic in building up a strong rapport between MPs and young people.

‘I find it fascinating to hear how passionate young people are about their communities and the dynamic ideas they have to enact social change.’

Scouts chose the topics for discussion, and prepared questions for MPs about local and national issues.

Peter, an Explorer Scout, pictured above with Penny, said: ‘I really enjoyed chatting to MPs who care about our hopes for the future.

‘I was eager to make good use of this opportunity to discuss ways in which my friends and I can improve our community.’
