IT’S a festival unique to the town of Gosport and now Gosfest has made a welcome return.
The festival kicked off in Walpole Park last night and is set to run for the next three days.
The Counterfeit Beatles headlined last night and The Killers tribute act The Fillers will take to the stage tonight.
Lisa Davidson, 36, lives in Foster Road. She brought along her two children Alice, four, and Lucy, two.
She said: ‘It’s good for a bit of family time.
‘We only live up the road so it’s good to be able to walk here, get some fresh air and enjoy some music with the family.
‘They are a bit tired now, but they have liked it.’
Sam Walters, 33, from Tukes Avenue, was with her family, husband David and children Jack, six, and Joe, three.
She said: ‘We just moved to the area four months ago so we thought we would give it a go.
‘We had never heard of it before. We are going to be here for the next three days, depending on the weather.
‘The set up seems really good. It does bring people together and it’s great for the town in the sense that it brings money in.’
Paul Cobb is the organiser of the festival.
He said: ‘It’s something for everyone. All different music tastes are catered for.
‘We’ve run a second stage this year so we can fit a lot more local bands on.
‘We’ve got lots of activities going on.
‘It’s a great day out for everybody.
‘There has been a festival of one form or another in Gosport for well over 15 years, long before I moved to the town.
‘It’s a good central point for the community.
‘Everybody is catered for. They can come in and there’s lots to do.
‘It’s a big festival atmosphere without the £40-£50 ticket charge.
‘People can’t wait for it. We’ve got the old stuff like the classics but there’s a younger generation in Gosport and we are trying to cater for them as well.’
There is also a festival market as well as fun fair rides and lots of refreshments.
Tomorrow night will see three hours of DJ sets, while Coldplay tribute act Coldplace will play on Sunday night.
It’s £2 for adults, £1 for children and free for under five’s.
