Fire crews scramble to large house fire in Southbourne putting residents at risk

FIRE crews scrambled to a large house fire in Southbourne last night that put residents in danger.

Crews tackled the blaze in Breach Avenue in the village near Chichester at about 10.30pm last night.

A significant volume of smoke was produced sparking a warning to nearby residents to keep their doors and windows shut.

Six fire engines attended the blaze including crews from Waterlooville, Havant, Horndean and Cosham.

A water carrier, jets and an aerial platform were used to battle the flames.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service tweeted images last night with the message: ‘Crews are tackling a house fire in Breach Avenue, Southbourne. Anyone living nearby is advised to please keep windows and doors closed because of the considerable amount of smoke in the area.’

The service later reported they had ‘scaled down’ after bringing the fire under control.

No casualties were reported.
