Fire destroys caravan and spreads to nearby field in Clanfield

FIRE crews have been called to a fire that completely destroyed a caravan in Clanfield earlier today.

Three crews from fire stations in Havant and Cosham attending the scene of the fire on White Dirt Lane at 2.15pm today.

An eyewitness, Clanfield resident Ami Jones, was alerted to the fire when her young daughter said they ‘needed to call Fireman Sam’ after seeing the smoke from her home.

She said: ‘I knew I had to call the emergency services because I could see it spreading - we could even hear it crackling.

‘It was quiet a big plume of smoke and the flames kept spreading across the hedges.’

More than an acre of the field adjacent to the caravan was scorched by the blaze, according to a fire fighter who attended the scene from Havant Fire Station.

He said: ‘The caravan was 100 per cent destroyed by the fire.’

The occupant of the caravan was at the scene and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
