Fire rips through Gunwharf Quays apartment as residents are evacuated

A FIRE has torn through an apartment in Gunwharf Quays, leading to dozens of people being evacuated from the building.

Fire station crews were called to the fire on the third floor of the Blue Building, in Gunwharf Road, at 2.20pm today.

The blaze was tackled by crews from stations in Southsea, Cosham, Portchester, Fareham, and Havant.

A firefighter from Havant Fire Station said: ‘It took us a good 20 minutes to put the fire out.

‘We had to fight it externally from an aerial platform.

‘The building was fully evacuated.’

No-one was injured due to the incident, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
