A crew from Cosham Fire Station was mobilised to Falmouth Road in Paulsgrove at 2am.

Fire fighters used one hose reel to battle the fire for half an hour as it began to spread across a garden fence that was propping up the vehicle.

Police were called as fire fighters were unable to locate the owner at the scene and treated the cause of the fire as ‘suspicious’, according to crew manager Stuart Mangan.

The firefighter said: ‘The moped was 100 per cent damaged, and spread to damage a panel of fencing.

‘The owner of the property was in but didn’t know how the fire started.

‘We treated it as the cause being doubtful, likely to be a stolen vehicle.’
