A FUNDRAISING open day at a fire station has been hailed a huge success.
Hayling Island Fire Station opened its doors to the public and residents got the chance to have a look around.
Watch manager Mark Pannell said: ‘I would like to take the opportunity to thank the public for making the day a great success.
‘We raised £700 for The Fire Fighters Charity and local causes.’
The event provided local residents the chance to visit the fire station and meet its crew.
It allowed them to gain an insight into the various activities firefighters carry out.
And they were given the chance to learn more about a host of safety matters from home to road safety.
Firefighters gave displays on kitchen fire safety and the dangers of chip pan fires.’
Mr Pannell continued: ‘Everyone had great fun during the course of the day.
‘The cake stand was a fantastic success with home made cakes donated by local residents which proved very popular.
‘There were glitter tattoos and face painting which were popular attractions for the kids.
‘And a really popular activity with members of the public was throwing wet spongers at firefighters who were locked in stocks.’
