First Wessex employees raise nearly £20,000 for charity

Staff at Hampshire housing association First Wessex have dug deep to raise nearly £20,000 for charities across the region last year.

First Wessex employees raised £13,000 from a scrap metal recycling scheme, and an additional £5,000 through monthly dress-down days, coffee mornings and a charity bike ride.

The firm, which has its head office in Portsmouth, held several charitable events, including a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Several members of staff took part in a 112-mile bike ride across Hampshire in aid of those who suffered in the Nepal earthquake.

Patrick Symington, finance director at First Wessex said: ‘Supporting local communities is at the heart of everything we do at First Wessex.

‘We’re overjoyed with the amount raised for such fantastic charities in 2015 and we look forward to raising even more money in 2016.’

Each month staff nominate a charity that is close to their heart and give a contribution to this good cause.

Over Christmas, they raised nearly £300 to support Save the Children, Churches Homeless Action and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Money from the scrap metal recycling scheme went to Cancer and Leukaemia in Children, CLIC Sargent, Tree of Hope, the Emily Ash Trust and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice – all of which were nominated by the employees.
