THE flag of the Commonwealth will be raised outside Havant’s civic office as part of an international celebration.
Dignitaries and members of the public will gather at The Plaza to hoist a flag of dedication to mark Commonwealth Day on Monday.
A specially-written Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out, as well as a message from the Queen.
At 10am the mayor of Havant borough, Councillor Marjorie Smallcorn will raise the flag.
Cllr Smallcorn said: ‘Flags are being raised in hundreds of towns and cities around the world to celebrate this event and I am delighted to be raising the flag in Havant to honour the Commonwealth.
‘This is a very meaningful way to demonstrate our togetherness, not just across the borough, or across the country but across the 53 nations of the Commonwealth.’
Flags will be raised at some of the Commonwealth’s furthest flung outposts, including the Rothera Research Station in Antarctica.
