PEOPLE across Waterlooville are being encouraged to get arty – for free.

Summer workshops have begun in the gazebo near Hambledon Road play area.

The next sessions are on August 21, 28 and September 4 from 10am to midday.

They are craft sessions run by the arts group Making Space.

Adults and children will get the chance to make jewellery, plush toys and wire sculptures.

In the afternoons there will be creative writing sessions with Brian Evans Jones, Hampshire Poet in Residence.

They run from 1pm to 3pm and people can drop in.

The events are being funded by Taylor Wimpy, the developer behind the West of Waterlooville development, off Hambledon Road.

There are also plans to build a moveable stage for performances across the town called a WOWPOD.

Places for the writing sessions can also be booked in advance by calling Clare Halstead on 07855 934 701 or by emailing through the website
