THE contributions of older people to the voluntary sector will be marked with a day dedicated to them.

Silver Sunday is a national event and, in Emsworth, Community First HEH is putting on a day of free taster activities that everyone – grandchildren included – can enjoy together.

Tim Houghton, chief executive of CFHEH, said: ‘We know from national research that many older people experience loneliness and find it difficult to join in with others or find it difficult to find activities that interest them.

‘Silver Sunday is a chance to bring everyone together for a day of fun and happiness and to explore new activities for free.’

There will be ping pong, fitness classes, IT workshops, genealogy, cooking and healthy eating, board games and minibus trips to places of interest.

It takes place on Sunday, October 5 at Hewitts, formerly the Emsworth Centre, in South Street, from 10am to 5pm.
