Frustrated residents meet with councillor to finally have their say on Somerstown redevelopment

RESIDENTS of a housing estate have turned to their newest councillor for voicing redevelopment concerns.

Charles Dickens ward councillor Stephen Morgan met with people living in Wilmcote House estate in Somerstown, Portsmouth last week to investigate the issues raised by the estate’s ongoing refurbishment.

Cllr Morgan said: ‘Residents have been let down time and time again by this development and rightly want answers.

‘This scheme is meant to be improving people’s lives, not making their lives worse.

‘Local people deserve better, a rent rebate for the disruption and an end date in sight for the works.’

The redevelopment project, which commenced in December 2013, has faced several setbacks including flooding.

The council has previously stated it was ‘robustly managing its contract’ with construction company Keepmoat and that the scheme will be completed by January 2017.
