GCSE exam results achieved across the Havant and Waterloovile area

THE changes to GCSE exams and grades this year means schools across Havant and Waterlooville have supplied results, which they say the majority of which cannot be compared with last year's, differently.Â

Some schools have compared maths and English grades, as those subjects were the first to change to numerical grades last year.

Warblington School said it has seen a 16 per cent rise in the basic measure of students achieving a strong pass of GCSEs at grade 5 or above, in English and maths.

Over at The Cowplain School, 55 per cent of pupils achieved a grade 4 in English and maths, while 31 per cent achieved a grade 5.

Sixty-nine per cent of pupils obtained a grade 4 in English and 62 per cent of pupils a grade 4 in maths.

At Horndean Technology College 70 per cent of students got a standard pass in three subjects '“ English language, English literature, and maths '“ which is a grade 4. 

Forty per cent of students got a grade 9-5 in English and maths, while 60 per cent of students got a grade 9-4 in English and maths.

Oaklands Catholic School said 16 of its students achieved eight or more grade 8s or above.

Laura Vahey achieved 10 grade 9s and Penelope Batty achieved nine grade 9s. 

Crookhorn College celebrated almost a quarter of pupils taking English achieving a 9-7 grade.

The percentage of students obtaining a grade 4 has improved this year for maths and English.

Sixteen students at the school achieved grade 9s.

Hampshire county councillor Stephen Reid, executive member for education, said: '˜I'd like to say a huge '˜well done' to all Hampshire students. From the information we've been sent so far, we believe there is a really positive set of results for Hampshire which look to be comfortably above the national average.'
