Parents and volunteers attending the group at Christ Church Hall at Widley were delighted when Daryn Brewer presented them with a generous gift of 40 new safety mugs, designed to safely contain parents’ and carers’ hot tea and coffee during their weekly social meet-ups.

Daryn, who owns local estate agent Brewers Sales & Lettings, donated the drinks containers when he found out that the group’s leaders, volunteers Amanda Kind and Jackie Mumford, had been saving up the group’s subscription money for a number of weeks to afford safer, practical covered mugs for the group meetings, to replace regular, breakable cups.

Daryn is no stranger to carrying out good deeds in and around the area in which he grew up.

In 2015, Daryn bought a run-down, closed public conveniences in Lower Drayton Lane, converted part of the building into his office, and then totally renovated the toilets before opening them back up to the public.

Brewer’s Sales & Lettings Old Loos address earned him a Community Contribution commendation award by The News Business Excellence Awards.

Daryn said: ‘A friend of mine attends this popular playgroup which has been running for more than 15 years at Christ Church Hall.

‘I grew up yards from the church and remember attending and loving community events there as a small boy.

‘I heard that Amanda and Jackie had been saving up the subs to get suitable plastic mugs to avoid breakages, accidental spills or potential scalds, but they were still a long way short. I have two small children and their safety is paramount, so I gladly offered to pay for these essential items.’

Group leader Amanda Kind added: ‘Daryn’s kind involvement is something we are incredibly grateful for.’
