THE News is going to give you the opportunity to put your feet up and enjoy the best possible read of the weekend – with the launch of a new magazine.

From next Saturday we will be bumping up the paper every week with a 40-page Weekend magazine.

It will carry a wide range of lifestyle features on subjects ranging from food and drink to homes and gardens, fashion and travel.

There will be more pages of nostalgia and puzzles, new columnists alongside old favourites and will incorporate our current seven-day television guide.

All this will be wrapped in the Weekend edition of the newspaper containing your usual mix of the best local news, sports and information.

The Weekend sees the return of a proper magazine to Saturday’s News since we stopped producing the Weekender.

From the feedback we received at the time we realised this move was not popular.

So we have taken the decision to bring a quality magazine back to add value to your favourite local newspaper.

National newspapers have successfully carried wider lifestyle and entertainments content on a Saturday for some time.

It is our intention to offer the same service – but, more importantly, with content that is more relevant to our loyal readers.

And, as the majority of national newspapers do, to help fund this we will be pricing Saturday’s News from October 13 differently from the rest of the week – at 75p.

We need to maintain our high standards and provide a quality and comprehensive paper.

To do that we must charge what we think is a fair price for the additional value of a great weekend read for all our readers.
