FORMER University of Portsmouth student and astronaut Tim Peake has been given good luck messages as he gets ready for space.

Major Peake has spent three years preparing for his Principia mission to the International Space Station on December 15.

For the launch, the university sent him messages in 15 languages.

Director of the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, Professor Bob Nichol, said: ‘We’re proud that Tim is one of our graduates and very excited about his mission to space.

‘We thought it would be fitting to record messages to Tim in 15 languages, including Hindi, Greek, French and Japanese.’
