RENOWNED concert pianist Iain Farrington will be playing the last concert for a music society which is closing down.

The concert will be the final one sponsored by the Gosport and Fareham Music Society, which has been hosting shows for more than four decades.

The programme, at the United Reformed Church in Bury Road, Gosport, on Sunday, from 3pm, will include music by Ravel, Debussy, Chopin, Bartok and Gershwin.

Society chairman Peter Usher said: ‘We want to attract a full house for Iain and we don’t want to go out with a whimper.

‘We have struggled to attract sufficiently large audiences to remain viable.

‘For 41 years we have brought musicians of all kinds to Gosport and Fareham, but audience numbers have gradually diminished due to changing attitudes, and to some extent it’s also the cost of advertising, so this will be our last concert.’

Tickets are available on the door at £8 each, under-18s can come for free. For more information call (023) 9224 1812.
