Gosport mum organises Fun Run for diabetes charity

Victoria Wilson, from Gosport, will run the London Marathon for daughter Shyloe and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Victoria, 37, organised a Fun Run last weekend in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which focuses on finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes and supporting families.

The mum-of-four needs £2,000 by the time she attempts to run the London Marathon next month, and managed to raise £944.22 by putting on this event.

Victoria said: ‘The London Marathon will be the biggest challenge I’ll have attempted.

‘My daughter, Shyloe, who is nine now, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was six. I want to put money towards helping to find a cure, which is why I’m running the marathon.

‘I organised the Fun Run in four weeks and chose to do it because I want children to be a part of all my fundraising.

I want them to be able to get something out of it, which they did.’

Eighty-seven children registered to take part in the Fun Run, with each paying a donation to Victoria’s Virgin Money Giving page.

Some children ran the course, which started and finished near Gosport Leisure Centre, on their own. Others ran with parents or guides.

Victoria added: ‘We had tattoos, face painting, cakes, crews from Gosport Fire Station, and more.

‘The day was excellent, we had great feedback and a lot of support from local staff and businesses.

So far I’ve raised about £1,500.

‘Shyloe enjoyed the run and she thinks it’s all amazing. Everything I do is for her and I just want to find a cure.’
