Gosport sailor breaks two records in global solo race

GOSPORT sailor Alex Thomson has broken two race records while competing in the Vendee Globe.

The sailing legend has become the fastest person to reach the Cape of Good Hope completing the journey in 18 days, three hours and two minutes.

The Gosport sportsman beat the previous race record by four days, 20 hours and 44 minutes.

Alex, 42, has been consistently leading the fleet since the November 12, averaging speeds in excess of 20 knots.

His good form has also seen him break a second race record from the equator to the Cape of Good Hope, passing in eight days and 20 hours. This means Alex has set two new race records in one day.

The Vendée Globe takes place every four years and is a non-stop solo round-the-world race.
