Keen competitor Hannah Buzzard, 13, does not have a proper pool to train in at her Gosport home during lockdown but has decided to raise funds for Blood Cancer UK in an unusual challenge.

Over seven days, Hannah is swimming four miles per day to reach the length of a marathon - she will spend around one hour 40 minutes each day taking on the challenge, which will keep her fit while her usual training is not possible.

The young athlete is missing the freedom of swimming in a larger pool but is determined to raise plenty of funds despite the cold water of the outdoor pool, which was seven degrees celsius on Monday.

Proud mum Marie said: ‘She’s always been a water baby so we sent her down to the local club. She’s very competitive and she will do anything for anybody.

‘Over the last two weeks she has seen the impact of lockdown on people with blood cancer.

‘The fundraising sector has been hit hard by this virus, this just shows you that people who are determined to make a difference are finding new ways to do it. For a 13-year-old to do this, it’s something special.’
