Vicki, from Gosport, had short hair as a child and after letting it grow for so long, decided she wanted to change her look.

Vicki, 50, says: ‘I used to have short hair when I was younger and I wanted to cut it again.

‘But I didn’t want the hair to go to waste.

‘So I walked into a hairdressers in Gosport and asked if it would be possible to donate my hair.’

The charity haircut took place at Unit 10 Hair Design at Royal Clarence Yard.

Angela Batten, owner of the salon, welcomed Vicki’s request and contacted the Little Princess Trust.

The charity makes wigs from real hair for children suffering from cancer and other illnesses which lead to hair loss.

She says: ‘It was the first time a charity haircut has happened in our salon and we were very happy to do it.’

Vicki got the idea of donating her hair from a work friend.

She found out about the opportunity of donating her hair to make wigs and she got excited about the prospect.

And afterwards, Vicki knew she had done the right thing.

She adds: ‘Kids who undergo chemotherapy suffer from losing their hair and I thought I wanted to help them in any way I could.

‘I recommend it to everyone and I am trying to raise as much money as possible.’

Vicki has now decided she will grow her hair again, cut it off and donate it.

So far, she has also raised £250 for the trust, but it costs £350 to make a wig.

Angela says the salon is still collecting donations to reach the total for the wig to be made.
