Gritting lorries have been used in Hampshire for the first time this winter.

As temperatures fell to -2C in some parts the county council’s fleet of salting lorries took to the main roads across the county.

A council spokeswoman confirmed that trunk roads were salted throughout Sunday evening and into the early hours of today.

West Sussex County Council also called out its team of salters for A roads in the Chichester area.
