IT’S the kind of gym that makes fitness fun.
The new gym at Havant Leisure Centre has been voted Gym of the Year 2015 by its members in a poll run by The News.
The gym, run by Horizon LC, opened in July last year and was also a finalist at the National Fitness Awards Gym of Year 2014.
With 623 votes, the gym in Civic Centre Road was a clear winner.
In second place was Everyone Active at Fareham Leisure Centre in Park Lane with 283 votes.
In third was the Mountbatten Centre in Northern Parade, Portsmouth, getting 261 votes.
Fourth went to Curves in Stokes Road, Gosport, with 194 votes.
And Nuffield Health, at Alexandra Park, Portsmouth, came fifth with 177 votes.
Staff at Horizon were delighted as they picked up the trophy.
Chief executive Howard Broad said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for Horizon Leisure Centres and we are delighted to have won The News’ prestigious award of Gym of the Year 2015, particularly as it’s our members that have voted for it – it’s the greatest compliment you can receive.
‘Our aim as a charity is to provide the best leisure facilities possible and to help Make Life Better for our customers and the local community.
‘Having listened to our customers we decided to invest in our gym provision at both our Havant and Waterlooville centres.
‘The new gym at Havant opened in July last year and was immediately short-listed for Gym of the Year by the National Fitness Awards.
‘A new and extended gym that will incorporate a dance studio, together with a massive new themed indoor play centre and cafe, is set to open at the Waterlooville centre in the summer.
‘We are pleased that our members and customers are happy with the new gym.’
The response to the new gym has been very positive and has seen Horizon LC introduce projects such as exercise referral scheme.
