AFTER 13 years in the industry, Lorna Dent was delighted to secure the top spot in the Colour Technician Of The Year category.
The 31-year-old set up salon Wink in West Street, Portchester, four years ago, after she worked in premium salons in Sydney and London.
She wanted to bring her ‘undone glamour and professional manner’ to the Portsmouth area – and it has been warmly received.
Her talent and quality salon proved so popular that Wink expanded, opening its second salon in Portsmouth Dockyard last year.
Lorna, of Nelson Road, Southsea, said: ‘I’m really shocked to win but really happy.
‘I knew there would be a high level of competition so I’m delighted.
‘It is my first time entering the awards, but I think it’s a good thing to do as it’s great for people to get the recognition they deserve.’
Lorna said she thought a constant desire to learn was what it took to succeed.
She said: ‘It takes a lot of time and experience as well as someone who is willing to constantly do more education and be aware of the advancements in colour as well as fashion.
‘I keep an eye on social media and fashion magazines a lot.
‘We also do a lot of education in both our salons and we do a lot of fresh courses, I think that is very important.’
Lorna’s ability to colour in fantastic and fashionable ways caught the judges’ eye, as did her constant striving for perfection and her keen eye for inspiration and new learning experiences.
