Havant duo dust off old banger for rally challenge in memory of brother

AFTER dusting off their 20-year-old Toyota Celica, a man and his brother-in-law are taking part in a banger rally across Europe in the name of charity

Alf Wimshurst, 62, and brother-in-law Rick Downham, 60, will compete in the Two Ball Rally next month in aid of Bowel Cancer UK.

The duo – known as the ‘Two Shady Greys’ – will be racing in memory of Rick’s brother Arthur ‘Narf’ Downham, who passed away from bowel cancer four years ago, aged 47.

Alf, from Lovedean, said: ‘Narf was a huge sports fan, both as a participant and as an armchair follower, and we are sure that an event like the Two Ball Rally would have grabbed his full attention.’

Alf and Rick, who have already raised over £2,500, have enticed companies to pay £50 to have logos on the Celica as it drives through nine countries over four days.

A charity auction is also being held at The Robin Hood pub, Arthur’s favourite drinking spot, in Havant on July 30.
