AN ORCHESTRA which is celebrating 50 years of entertaining classical music lovers will finish the season with a master.

Rossini’s overture, The Siege of the Corinth, will be the highlight of Havant Symphony Orchestra’s performance next month.

It takes place at Ferneham Hall, on July 7, and also on the programme will be Grieg, Liszt and Brahms.

Grieg’s Old Norwegian Romance is a set of variations based on a folk song theme which will be conducted by the orchestra’s founder, Peter Craddock.

He will pass the baton to the orchestra’s current holder Robert Hodge, of the Bob Harding Bursary for Young Conductors’, for the remaining two items.

There will be a pre-concert talk by David Goodall about Grieg and the Upbeat Club for young music-lovers, both at 6.30pm. They will be followed by an interlude by young musicians at 7.00pm.
